Rebekah Templeton Contemporary Art is pleased to present Species of Spaces an exhibition of new work by Tim Eads. For this exhibition, Eads will transform the gallery into an overwhelming visual, aural, and gestural experience using painting, sound, sculpture, prints, and food. The title of the exhibition is loosely based on Georges Perec's book of the same name. The book features contemplations on the ways in which we occupy urban and domestic space and offers thought-provoking examinations of the ordinary. The opening reception for Species of Spaces will include a sound performance by Austen Brown. Brown will be creating experimental distortions using sounds made by the mechanisms in the exhibition.
For Species of Spaces, Eads will create an environment that will "bombard your ears as you try to make sense of the visual chaos. Embedded in the disorder will be moments of clarity and order in the form of beautiful geometric prints. When you land back on earth, your mouth will be filled with the perfect food. Are they chips? Are they fries? You'll completely forget you're at an art opening."
Tim Eads is an artist living in Philadelphia. He earned his M.F.A. from Cranbrook Academy of Art. His work has been featured in several exhibitions, most recently at the Museum of New Art in Detroit, Jolie Laide, Pentimenti in Philadelphia, and the Arthouse at Jones Center in Austin, TX, as well as the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art in Wilmington, DE. He has served as a visiting lecturer at Moore College of Art and Design, University of the Arts, Mercer County Community College and Penn State School of Visual Arts. Recent residencies have been at the Recycled Artist-in-Residency (RAIR) and FLUXspace.
Austen Brown is a sound artist living and working in Philadelphia, holding a BA in Composition from the Evergreen State College. Having worked in music, video, theater, dance, and installation, he views sound as a malleable tool to express ideas not inherently musical.
Species of Spaces opens on Saturday, June 2, 2012 with an opening reception with the artists from 6 - 9 pm. The exhibition closes Saturday June 30, 2012.
