Rebekah Templeton Contemporary Art is pleased to announce Dechemia: Vessel Full, an exhibition by John Gibbons and Isobel Sollenberger. Dechemia: Vessel Full will feature numerous site-specific works created from drywall, plaster, paper and ink.  These ephemeral objects and images stem from myth and alchemy. For this exhibition, Gibbons and Sollenberger have transformed the gallery into a chamber of sacred geometry, alchemy, astro-theology, and shamanism.

John Gibbons and Isobel Sollenberger’s unique process of pouring and casting directly into drywall initiates objects and images that appear both otherworldly and organic. The artists describe the process as relating to “an alchemical process inside of us… fueled and mirrored by the visible transmutation of materials.” Dechemia: Vessel Full mines the mystic and mythical corners of art history pulling from Duchamp’s "Etant Donnes", the Kepler spacecraft, to Nuit the Egyptian sky goddess. From these references, Gibbons and Sollenberger have managed to create objects that are as mysterious and universal as the figures, stories, and texts that inspired their creation.

Dechemia: Vessel Full opens on Thursday, September 10, 2009 with an opening reception from 6-9 pm.  The exhibition closes on Saturday, October 24, 2009.
